Keyless remotes are an important part of our everyday life, in fact, many of us wouldn’t even be able to get in or drive our cars without them. There is a rare occurrence when you will see cars that only have locks for manual key entry, but the majority of cars today come with keyless remotes that let you lock and unlock your vehicle from a distance.
Many car ignitions are even keyless. You simply have to be in the car with your keyless remote to be able to use the push button start and drive your car.
What are keyless remotes?
Keyless remotes are the small fobs that we use to lock and unlock our cars. They typically include buttons that also allow you to open and close your trunk, and often have a button that allows you to activate your cars anti-theft alarm system.
Keyless remotes are battery powered and operate on fairly simple technology. The brand specific keyless remotes that you get when you purchase a new or used car are programmed to work with your car alone, right out of the box.
If you didn’t receive a keyless remote with your car, that is no problem at all. Our service technicians can come to your home and program a new keyless remote for you.
Common problems with key fobs
Key fobs are incredibly convenient, but they do come with a few issues. Over the years our keychains have gotten smaller and smaller. The smaller our keychains get, the easier it is to lose or misplace a key fob.
Since keyless remotes are battery powered, the battery in them is eventually going to die. You probably use your keyless remote to access your car daily, which puts a lot of wear and tear on the buttons and the housing for your remote.
Normal wear and tear of using your remote or the occasional dropping of your keys can damage or break your remote so that it is totally unusable.
